What I Am Up To
current and recent projects
Whole Life Engineering Intern: Raytheon Intelligence & Space
May 2021- Present
I am currently a part-time Engineering intern (Co-Op) at Raytheon Technologies & Space in El Segundo. I do a lot of logistical work and systems engineering work, which Raytheon calls 'Whole Life'. I have a technical role at the moment. I work in a lab troubleshooting Airborne Radar systems. Every day is different; it keeps me on my toes!
Particle Image Velocimetry
August 2019 - June 2021
This is the project I am most involved with, and most excited about. Particle Image Velocimetry is a ground breaking method of taking data on aerodynamics. In layman's terms, we fill a wind tunnel with smoke, shoot a laser light at the wind tunnel model, take many thousands of pictures at thousands of hundreds of frames per second, and finally a software displays an image of the behavior of the air as it glides around a model. I took part in writing the safety manual for the use of the laser on this project, and now am working on methods of designing a new wind tunnel model, as a part of the manufacturing team.
Personal Assistant
June 2020 - Febuary 2021
I am a personal assistant to an entrepreneur named Lauren Valdez. She is part owner of the online courses "Building a Second Brain", works for the Department of Public Health, and teaches online courses called "How to Win a Fulbright". Although not in my field of study, I have learned much about administrative work and have been able to work on other skills, such as my attention to detail.
Bronco Space:
Rocket Propelled Lander
January 2021- present
Bronco space is a club on campus at Cal Poly Pomona that is comprised of a few different projects. I am a part of the Engine Team of Rocket Propelled Lander. Our ultimate goal is to produce a liquid mono-propelled hopper that can launch to a low altitude and then land upright autonomously. We have been able to create the structure, simulate the avionics and controls systems, and procure all of the engine components. We fall short on nozzle design for the engine.
Other Projects Worth Noting
Fall 2019
Wind Tunnel Lab
On campus at Cal Poly, we used the Low Speed wind tunnel to quire data on a winglet. We calculated for force of lift, then calculated the coefficients of lift and drag, by hand. We compared our observed values to the theoretical values to see how accurate our tests were.
Fall 2019
Jet engine SR30 engine Test
We used a SR30 jet engine on a thrust stand to take thrust data at different throttle levels. Then we created graphics that map the trends we recorded.
Spring 2019
Rocket motor test
We used thrust stand to test a B6-4 rocket for thrust and specific impulse. And we graphed the data to visualize and understand why the rocket equation is a logarithmic function.
